Dental problems often go undetected because they remain hidden within the teeth and bones of the mouth. X-rays identify these hidden problems. In addition to identifying decay, X-rays can detect trauma to the teeth and bones, reveal impacted teeth, and uncover signs of periodontal or bone disease. X-rays are an inexpensive and relatively harmless way to detect dental problems before they result in serious and potentially costly problems down the road. Patients often worry their exposure to radiation during dental x-ray procedures. At Dr. Klug’s office X-rays are taken with the latest high-speed film that minimizes a patient's exposure to radiation. Combine this with a lead apron and the high tech equipment used, patients have little cause for worry. In fact, normal dental X-rays are safer than allowing existing problems in the mouth (decay, infection, bone loss or impacted teeth) to persist. Not everyone needs to have radiographs taken at every dental visit.
Only your dentist can say how often you need them. Dr. Klug will prescribe
the appropriate type, number and frequency of x-rays based on your
individual needs.
